Basic Macaroni and Cheese

An online recipe with instructions for making Basic Macaroni and Cheese.

Ingredients

- 9 ounces of uncooked macaroni (aout 2 cups)
- 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 cups of bechamel sauce (aka white sauce)
- 1/2 cup of buttered bread crumbs

Optional flavorings for the sauce in this recipe:
- garlic, minced
- mustard (dry or prepared)
- paprika
- worcestershire sauce

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees

Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions and drain off the water.

Spread half of the macaroni (1 cup) into a casserole or other baking dish.

Sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese (1 cup) over the top of macaroni.

Spread the other half of the macaroni (1 cup) over the cheese layer.

Sprinkle the other half of the cheese (1 cup) over the second macaroni layer.

Gently and evenly, pour the bechamel sauce over the assembled macaroni and cheese.

Sprinkle the buttered bread crumbs over the top of the bechamel sauce.

Bake at 400 degrees until the top is brown.
